Green Living and Allergy Awareness Iniatives
We list here all of our current Green Living and Allergy Awareness Initiatives and we will update the list as we add new initiatives.
We are committed to sustainable practises in all of our restaurants. Please see our Mission Statement
for the whole story!
Allergy Awareness and Gluten Free Menu Items
Gluten Free, Allergy Aware
Concerns about ingredients due to food allergies or other special needs are common these days. We take food allergies
very seriously and train our servers to answer any questions with regard
to any possible allergens in our dishes or other concerns that our customers may have.
We pride ourselves on our in-depth knowledge of all the
ingredients that are used in our menus. We have compiled a list of our dishes that are
gluten-free for our customer's convenience.
All of our restaurants also serve at least one brand of gluten-free beer (such as
Redbridge) and
Magners Irish Cider.

St Peter's Gluten Free Beer
All of us at the Irish Restaurant Copany understand the love of beer and how hard it would be to have a gluten allergy and not be able to enjoy a delicious craft beer. This is why we offer St. Peter's Gluten Free Beer. St. Peter's offers a clean, crisp gluten free ale with a pilsner lager style finish and aromas of citrus and mandarin from American Amarillo hops. We are proud to serve one of the finest gluten free beers available.
Carbon Footprint Reduction
Wind Power
The Irish Restaurant Company is pleased to announce a partnership with Clean Currents.
By partnering with Clean Currents our Maryland restaurants have made the financial commitment to purchase an equivalent amount of RECs (Renewable Energy Credits) as the quantity of kilowatt hours each of the restaurants consumes in order to ensure that the same amount of electricity will be 100% wind produced and returned to the national grid supply. For more information on how the REC system works and for more information on our partner Clean Currents please visit their web site at cleancurrents.com.
eCruisers
For the convenience of our Galway Bay customers we have partnered with eCruiser. Our customers can park anywhere in Annapolis and call the eCruiser to bring them right to our door—FREE. If you would like to learn more about eCruiser you can call us at the Galway Bay (410-263-8333), ask about it on your next visit, or you can download their flyer (68kb PDF file). eCruiser dispatch: 443-481-2422 or 443-497-4769.
Rhino Environmental Solutions—Wet Waste Filtration System
We use the The Rhino Wet Waste Filtration System because it is a simple but highly effective device which filters out most of the organic solid matter before it enters the grease trap. By doing so, we prevent the organic material (food particles) from accumulating in the grease traps. As a result, the grease traps become more effective in separating the oil and grease from the water. Tons of solid waste are prevented from reaching municipal water treatment plants.
Green Awareness
Greener Results
We've teamed up with Greener Results, a green consultant agency, to achieve greener results in all of our facilities, operations, service offerings, products, and overall image. With the guidance of Greener Results we are committed to making a greener impact on the environment and we are proud to be a part of their success in achieving and promoting greener results.
Maryland Green Travel
Much like Sustainable Annapolis, Maryland Green Travel is a program we've participated in to reduce the environmental impact of Maryland's tourism industry. The program helps us evaluate our procedures, set our goals and take specific actions towards environmental sustainability.
Sustainable Annapolis
Over the past few years we've teamed up with Sustainable Annapolis, which is a program dedicated to making Annapolis a sustainable and carbon neutral city. Together we work on goals and ideas gathered from the public, detailing how we can become a sustainable community.
Local, Sustainable, Food Sources
Choptank Oysters
We offer oysters from The Choptank Oyster Company for many of our special events when they are the freshest and most readily available. The oysters are raised by a local commercial aquaculture company with a mission to produce a high quality oyster that is healthier for the consumer, while also helping to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
Hydroponic Lettuce Salads
We are now using Local Hydroponically grown lettuce in our special summer salads.
We have both a Boston-Bibb salad and a Lamb Skewer salad
in a crispy Irish Boxty shell. Consumers are concerned about the environment and are motivated to support
production operations which are "kind" to the environment. Hydroponic growing
methods use little or no harmful chemicals including pesticides, insecticides,
or herbicides. Insect and disease control are accomplished by using biological
control methods which are safe to the environment. The hydroponic methods utilized by Chesapeake Greenhouse are extremely
conservative regarding water consumption, using only about one tenth of the
water that is normally used in open field agriculture.
Fertilizer needs are
reduced as well keeping costs lower, and waste materials to a minimum. Get more info on Chesapeake Greenhouse (3.4mb PDF file).
Recycling and Waste Management
Eco-Products
Eco-Products, Inc. is a company much like us, dedicated to conducting business in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. Their business philosophy is protective of the environment and mindful of the impact it has on the lives of our employees and their communities.
We proudly use Eco-Products for all of our take out needs. Their unique and sustainable products are made from corn starches, sugar cane and offers a 100 percent compostable alternative to conventional tree-based paper products; rather than the more traditionally used plastic and Styrofoam products. To learn more about Eco Products please visit their website.
Freestate Bio Fuel
We find it very satisfying to take the opportunity to help save the environment while returning financial resources. With Freestate Bio Fuel, all of our wasted vegetable oil is used in the production of bio-diesel fuel. The conversion of waste vegetable oil (WVO) into bio-fuel lessens American dependence on fossil oil and reduces greenhouse emissions.
